The requirements to become a Reserve Firefighter (part-time) at the Red Bluff Fire Department are:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a High School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Possess and maintain a valid CDL
  • Current certification as an EMT-D & CPR provider
  • State of California Firefighter I Certificate
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness (FRO-level) Certificate
  • Confined Space Rescue (Awareness-level) Certificate or Training
  • Must permanently reside within a 10 mile radius of RBFD HQ

Every few years the RBFD conducts a state-certified Firefighter I academy. Applicants to this academy must be at least 18 years of age. After successful completion of the 5-month academy you may become our next reserve firefighter! We will likely sponsor our next fire academy in January of 2009.  Click here for a brief summary of our fire academy requirements.

Full-time firefighter positions at the RBFD are generally filled through the promotional testing process from within our pool of exceptional Reserve Firefighters.
